MEDICINAL PLANT RESOURCES IN NHAT HOA COMMUNE, BAC SON DISTRICT, LANG SON PROVINCE

Abstract

Nhat Hoa commune, Bac Son district, Lang Son is located in the Bac Son arc of the Northeastern region of Vietnam with climate and soil conditions suitable for the development of many medicinal plants and at the same time multi-ethnic composition such as Tay, Dao, Nung, and Kinh ethnic groups have long experience in using medicinal plants. As a result of the field investigation, 211 medicinal plant species were discovered belonging to 3 phylums, 71 families, 141 genuses; 10 species of which were listed in the List of Essential Medicines, and 3 species of which were in the Red Book of Vietnam (2007). The scientific names to species of 138 plants have been identified, 52 medicinal plants have been identified only to their genus, 7 plants have been identified to their families and 14 plants have not been identified with scientific names. Specially, 151 species of discovered ones are used as medicine by people in Nhat Hoa commune. The species are distributed in 5 different vegetation types, in which mainly in impacted primary forest and limestone mountains. Among 211 species of medicinal plants, 12 different uses are listed to treat 26 groups of diseases. The group of musculoskeletal diseases has the most species used with 29 species, accounting for 19.21%. Meanwhile, the number of disease groups with only one species is 8 groups including: polio, hemostasis, fracture, pain relief, respiratory, fungal, diabetes, fever-inflammatory, each group accounted for only 0.66%. The research results have contributed to documenting the knowledge of using medicinal plants in the locality, which is the basis for the development and conservation of local medicinal plant resources.
